    This cute "thing" will be the next wave of military and law enforcement. Wait until you augment it with tasers, clamping jaws, any thing that will control a perpetrator, crowd, etc. Get ready to be herded into submission. You thought running from a dog was scary...

    Hi Stefan. I own the Museum of Juggling History, the world's only juggling museum. One of the things on our "wish list" for the museum is a juggling robot. There wouldn't be any chance that your robot is is storage and that you'd want to donate it to the museum, is there?

    I used to take the bus often, and it would have been so convenient to have something like this for grocery shopping and trips to the Laundromat. Often here in Dallas, there's no sidewalk, so either you walk on the grass or you attempt to walk in the street, and hope the cars don't hit you. Wheeled carts or strollers don't roll on grass that well. Something like this would have been really convenient. I also met folks who had an invisible disability (like MS or fibromyalgia) and needed someone to go with them to help manage their stuff. Imagine if they had a tiny robot to carry their stuff. Also in regards to lack of sidewalks; could this technology be applied to wheelchairs, turning them into some sort of walking chair, so that folks with wheelchairs are not on the street? I swear I've almost hit a couple driving along, and it really freaked me out. They're low down, and one is usually watching the road "at car height" not wheelchair height.

    • @TheFishCostume
      @TheFishCostume 10 років тому

      Yes, but the power requirement would be huge, and this type of technology is not practical for carrying things. BigDog is designed for transportation, and even it isn't practical yet. I mean, if you need off-road capabilities, you might as well just get a wheelchair with treads.

    • @bugeyedmonster2
      @bugeyedmonster2 10 років тому

      TheFishCostume Y'know, I don't think I've ever seen a wheelchair with treads. There's several folks in wheelchairs around my area, and when there's no sidewalk, they use the street. The ground can get pretty soggy around here, so it's possible their wheelchairs can't do 'all terrain'.

    The robot appears to have an optical sensor on the front, yet it and many objects in the environment have fiducial markers. What role do these play? Does the robot map terrain purely through on-board sensors or do external cameras help?

    • @sublucid
      @sublucid 10 років тому

      Considering it has optical fiducials all over itself, I'd say that it's getting a lot of outside help. Perhaps the Piksi GPS unit and some IMUs will be able to replace optical tracking.

    cute? Are you KIDDING? You know DARPA is the military right? You imagine this this weaponised?

    • @huehuecoyotl2
      @huehuecoyotl2 8 років тому

      DARPA developed the Internet you are on right at this moment. And anyway, Boston Dynamics was acquired by Google a while back and they are focusing on making smaller robots for more consumer focused applications. Besides, all tools and advancements can be weaponized or used to control or harm people regardless who developed them or their original purpose. The printing press is a fine example of such a technology, as is fire.

    I know that giving it some kind of head/face would probably cause balance issues, but I'd totally want to add a bit of character to it. Like a kind of robot dog. Then again, I think it's quite adorable just the way it is, haha.
